Dear Cottage Pal ,
If you’ve found your way here, I’m so happy because we’ve either connected on Instagram, through my blog or you’ve found me here. Chances are you love old houses, storied interiors, and the quiet charm of a well-worn book, just like me. You might be drawn to the slow work of restoration, the thrill of a secondhand find, or the way a space can feel layered with history and memory. You might just like a good story (And believe me, I’m good at exaggerating almost anything into a good story.)
If you can see yourself nodding—welcome. You’re in the right place.
I’m Lindy, and I live in Blackbird Cottage, an 1878 weatherboard home tucked away by the water in Tasmania, Australia. Restoring this cottage has been a process of discovery—uncovering its past, shaping its future, and finding beauty in its imperfections.
Since 2023, I’ve shared pieces of this journey on my blog, Instagram and now I’m bringing it here to Substack, in a way that feels a little more intentional, a little more personal.
What You’ll Find Here
This Substack is a place for storytelling, thoughtful homemaking, design and simple DIY. I’ll be sharing:
• Reworked Blog Posts – Some of my favorite pieces from the old blog, refreshed and reimagined. Plus a few life stories you loved back on the farm.
• New Essays & Journal Entries – Musings on home, interiors, creativity, and the small, beautiful things that make up a life.
• Seasonal Letters from Blackbird Cottage – Snippets of history, reflections on the changing seasons, and the occasional letter from Annie Fitzpatrick, a fictional past resident of the cottage.
At its heart, this space is about creating a home that tells a story. Whether that’s through the pieces we collect, the spaces we shape, or the way we write our own daily lives into them.
I’d love for this to be a conversation, so please feel free to reply, share your thoughts, and make yourself at home here.
To keep up with new posts, make sure to hit subscribe.
What’s something you want to read more of—home projects, slow living, personal stories? Let me know!
Hi Lindy, I managed to install substack app, yay me (not tech savvy at all) as I wanted to continue following you on your wonderful evolving journey of life at Blackbird Cottage.
Hi Lindy, I just froze some fresh tomatoes. Never knew that was possible until your IG page.
